Room with nine floor chairs arranged in a circle, with a round rug in the center, a small basket of toys, posters of two plants, pillows, and yellow and patterned banners on the wall.

Throughout history the power of the circle is acknowledged and embraced by numerous cultures and religions. The circle has been the shape adopted by gatherings. The circle is acknowledged as an archetype of wholeness and integration, with the center of a circle universally understood to symbolize Spirit. When a group of people come together in a circle, they are united. This connection unites thought and action, mind and body, and spirit and form in a circle. Because a circle has no beginning and no end, the agreement to connect in a circle allows energy to circulate from one person to the next, rather than being dissipated into the environment.

People who take part in a circle find that their power increases exponentially while with the group. Like a drop of water rippling on the surface of a pond, the waves of energy produced in a circle radiate outward in circular motion. While one person may act like a single beacon that emanates light, a circle of people is like a satellite dish that sends out energy. There is power in numbers, and when the commitment is made by many to face one another, and focus on one intention, their circle emanates ripples of energy that can change the world.

The Afterglow circle invites you into a space safe to share the roses and thorns of life with a new baby.

We welcome you and are grateful to hold space for you.

Infographic titled 'AfterGlow New Parent Group' with three icons and descriptions: a lightbulb for borrowing wisdom, a tangled mess for chaotic laughter, and a laughing emoji for parenting memes. Below, reasons why new parents need community are listed with icons: a moon and clouds for encouragement, question marks for judgment-free support, and hands holding a heart for shared love.

Having a baby is incredible.

But it can also be incredibly difficult.

The Afterglow community offers an opportunity for parents to get together

and share their experiences in an inclusive, safe, non-judgmental space.

Conversations found at our weekly new parent group include:

  • Transition to becoming a parent

  • Life with a newborn

  • Processing your birth experience

  • Feeding your baby

  • Returning to work

  • Stages of development

  • Transitioning to toddlerhood

  • Parenting more than one child

  • .....And so much more!

Follow us on Instagram AND Facebook to find out more information. We circle up and share our roses and thorns together. We welcome you no matter how your baby was brought earth-side, no matter how you feed your baby, diaper, or sleep your baby. All are welcome! Come as you are, there is no such thing as late! No appointment is necessary!

Going to parent-baby support groups can help get you through a rough patch, help you feel less lonely, build your confidence to get out and about alone with your baby, and even help you meet new lifelong friends.

We have an active and safe online space that is also super valuable to our parents who attend in-person groups.

The first visit to an Afterglow New Parent group is always FREE! Drop-in rates are $10 per visit. We never want cost to be a barrier to attendance. If money is tight, our scholarship fund will cover your costs with no questions asked!

Afterglow Foundations is the 8-week fourth trimester series and the fee is $295. One scholarship per cohort is available. Contact Us for more information.

Afterglow New Parent Group Facilitator Team

*Afterglow was created by a magical fairy named Emily McCay and was formally held at The Diaper Fairy Cottage. Sadly, the beloved cottage closed in 2017 and Emily passed from this world in 2018. Many parents, like myself, are grateful this space was created and Bonnie is honored to carry on this safe, inclusive space for this community. These photos are images from over the decade of hosting Afterglow in various locations. Our current home for Afterglow is at the office of Bonnie Knows Breast.

Photo of seven women, each with their name and profession below: Clare Olerz, Postpartum Doula with Social Work Degree; Shanice Nelson, Maternal Child Health Expert; Patti Weiter, Organizational Psychologist; Bonnie Logsdon, Dietitian, Doula, and Lactation Consultant; Mary Miller, Doula, Lactation Counselor, and Psychotherapist; Alex Wallace, Postpartum Doula.

Afterglow groups are co-facilitated by a team of parents who’ve been there and know how hard it can be to navigate those long days and nights with a new baby.

Bonnie Logsdon (she/her) brings her experience as a dietitian, lactation consultant, doula, and mother to this community and has been holding space for parents in this circle since 2017. She loves food, travel, live music, and exercise. Bonnie is a connector and loves to sniff babies.

Clare Olberz (she/her) is a postpartum doula with a degree in social work. She attended the very first afterglow in 2014 and has been glowing up ever since as both a mom and facilitator. Clare gives the BEST hugs and people call her the baby whisperer.

Shanice Nelson (she/her) is an IBCLC student and Senior at Union Institute & University where she studies Maternal Child Health. She loves building a lasting rapport with mamas, babies, and all things breastfeeding. Nicey has an infectious laugh and you just want to be her friend and hang out!

Patti Weiter (she/her) is an organizational psychologist and Afterglow alum. She is a mom to 3 girls and she loves karaoke, yoga, and talking about boundaries. Patti has a passion for helping moms flourish. Patti is always rocking bright colors and an even brighter smile!

Mary Miller (she/her) is a certified birth doula, certified lactation counselor, and psychotherapist certified in perinatal mental health. As a professional in birth work and mental health, Mary strives to provide the birthing person and their partner with emotional, physical, and informational support to empower them through their pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting journey. Mary is a wife, mom, sister, friend, and aunt. She loves exercising, hiking, hanging out with my family, pizza and pugs!

Alex Wallace (she/her) is a postpartum doula, a mama to two sweet boys, and an Afterglow alum. She is passionate about nurturing and empowering new parents. When she’s not holding a baby you can find her reading, doing puzzles, or scouring local restaurants for her next favorite dish!
